Born and raised on the Gulf Coast, I’m a Florida girl through and through. I love to travel and experience new places, but the Gulf Coast will always be home. I’ve visited beaches on the west coast, east coast and even the Mediterranean, but they didn’t have what our beaches offer – the pristine powder white sand and aquamarine tones of the Gulf of Mexico. If you’re from here or have ever visited here then you already know that. Perhaps it’s local prejudice, but I will always prefer the beaches of my home town.
There was a time in my life where I thought I would move away, live in different states and cities. Funny how life rarely goes exactly the way you envision. A few years ago I took up residence in the Pensacola area. I began to put down roots and make this small city home. I still love to travel, see new sights and visit new places, but the panhandle of Florida will always be home.
One thing you should know about me is I LOVE good food! I’m always looking for new restaurants to try, and new cuisines to experience. One of the activities I enjoy most is sharing an amazing meal with family and friends. There’s just something about well-crafted culinary dishes that bring people together. I enjoy dining out as well as cooking and sharing a meal at home. It’s about the quality of ingredients, the labor of love and time shared with those you love.
A Blog is Born
While a good dining experience is a favorite hobby of mine, I can’t take credit for the idea of this blog. One evening I was enjoying tapas with a friend at Carmen’s Lunch Bar downtown. Between bites of a spicy pork plantain pie and Moroccan vegetable curry (so good!) we were discussing life, work, hobbies, interests and a blog I had started but never consistently posted to. Suddenly my friend blurted out, “You should start a Pensacola food blog! You seriously know more about food and restaurants in Pensacola than anyone I know.”
The wheels started turning. I contemplated her idea for a few days, actually probably more like a few weeks, and then thought, why not? I love trying out new places and recommending restaurants to friends and family and even people I run into around town. It’s not unusual for me to strike up conversations with people visiting the area and start discussing local restaurants. By the time the conversation is over, I’ve figured out their palate and food preference enough to recommend local venues for them to try.
For a city its size, Pensacola offers an eclectic and diverse array of dining options. This blog gives me yet another valid reason to visit all the dining establishments this town has to offer. So that’s the story of how this blog was born. My goal is that this blog will introduce you to local restaurants and businesses so that my favorite dishes can become yours as well.
